Macular Degeneration

What is Macular degeneration

Macular degeneration is the breakdown of the macular tissue or central retina. People with Macular Degeneration lose some or all of their central vision.  Side or peripheral vision my stay intact, but the loss of central vision can be devastating to some.  Imagine looking at someone and you can see their hair and chin, but no details of their face.

Amsler Grid

The Amsler grid is a tool that eye doctors use to detect vision problems resulting from damage to the macula (the central part of the retina) or the optic nerve. The damage may be caused by macular degeneration or other eye diseases, so the Amsler grid is useful in detecting these problems.
