Dry Eyes

What is Dry Eye?

Dry eyes occur when the tear film layer that coats and protects the cornea, or outer window of the eye, is no longer sufficient.  Often times people complain that their eyes are red, irritated and feel dry.  They might also express that their eyes are constantly watering or difficult to open in the morning.  Many factors can play a part in causing dry eyes.  In this book we will focus on efforts to improve dry eyes through nutrition.

WHAT IS MGD?

MGD occurs when the meibomian glands in the eyelids are blocked and unable to release enough of the essential oily layer of the tear film that coats and protects the front surface of your eye.  Without enough of this essential oil, the tear film evaporates, leading to chronic dry eye.  Treatments like iLux, and warm compresses can be helpful.

OTHER DRY EYE TREATMENTS

Aside from diet, other treatments might include vitamin supplements of omega 3 oils, increased water consumption and prescription eye drops and in office therapy like iLux
